Position Overview

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas is one of the largest district courts among the country's 94 federal judicial districts. The district courts, combined with the appellate courts and the Supreme Court, make up the judicial branch of the federal government. The Southern District of Texas consists of the following seven divisional offices: Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Galveston, Houston, Laredo, McAllen and Victoria.

This position will be located in the Houston division and reports to the Human Resources Manager. This is a career ladder position. Further promotional potential to HR Specialist without posting exists.
 
Starting grade is CL24 ($51,551), with promotional potential to CL25 based on acceptable performance. The successful applicant will be placed at the highest CL and step for which the applicant qualifies.

Representative Duties

The Human Resources Coordinator will work within the Human Resources Department located in Houston, Texas. Human Resources supports the judicial officers and their staffs, as well as the employees of the District/Bankruptcy Clerk's Office and Probation. As part of the consolidated shared administrative services team, the incumbent will assist with providing a full range of Human Resources support to the court units including (not limited to):

  • support H.R. Specialists by assisting with daily activities;
  • processing limited personnel actions;
  • assisting HR Specialists by tracking leave issues district-wide using Microsoft Lists;
  • partnering with team by coordinating recruitment scheduling;
  • conducting new hire orientation;
  • assisting with law clerk and intern onboarding;
  • monitoring Human Resources phones and email box to assist internal and external clients;
  • assisting with employee recognition program and planning events around the district;
  • traveling within the district as needed;
  • other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a minimum of one year of work experience in the Judiciary or in a Human Resources department, be successful in their current position, and meet the following criteria:

  • Have a desire to pursue a career in Human Resources; 
  • Genuinely enjoy working with people and providing support in all aspects of Human Resources; 
  • Possess the ability to be discreet, maintain confidential information, and exercise mature judgment; 
  • Have demonstrably exceptional communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Be customer service driven;
  • Be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications with an aptitude for technology;
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a four-year college degree and those that have a previous background in Human Resources.
