The Children’s Center of Hamden is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Human Resources Generalist to support day-to-day HR operations, employee relations, compliance, onboarding, benefits, leave administration, and workplace culture initiatives.
As a key member of the Human Resources team, the HR Generalist will partner with managers and employees across departments to provide guidance, support compliance, improve employee experience, and help strengthen recruitment, retention, and performance management practices.

What You’ll Do
As Vice President/Director of Education Services, you will:
- Provide day-to-day HR guidance and support to managers and departments.
- Support employee relations matters, including coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions, and workplace investigations.
- Partner with management to support performance management, career development, and employee retention.
- Assist with workforce planning, succession planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Review HR trends and metrics to help identify solutions, process improvements, and policy recommendations.
- Identify employee and manager training needs and support follow-up to ensure training objectives are met.
- Maintain knowledge of employment laws and regulations to support compliance and reduce organizational risk.
- Collaborate with management on job description creation and revisions.
- Audit onboarding requirements to ensure all new hire documents, background checks, and pre-employment testing are completed before hire letters are issued.
- Support compliance with continued employment requirements, including professional licenses, credentialing, privileging, and required renewals.
- Serve as a resource for benefits administration and communicate agency benefit options to employees.
- Support leave administration, including CT FMLA, CT Paid Leave, Short-Term Disability, and personal leaves of absence.
- Assist with employee injury reports, workers’ compensation claims, occupational health coordination, restricted duty accommodations, and required OSHA/BLS reporting.
- Work closely with managers and employees to improve workplace relationships, morale, productivity, and retention.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee experience initiatives in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support HR operations and agency success.Â
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Prior HR Generalist or related HR experience preferred.
- Knowledge of employment laws, HR compliance, employee relations, benefits, and leave administration.
- Strong communication, organization, judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with managers, employees, and external partners.
- Experience in nonprofit, education, behavioral health, or human services settings preferred.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to perform light to moderate lifting, standing, walking, bending, and other physical tasks as needed
