Human Resources Generalist

 

Salary: $23.86 Hourly

Department: Human Resources

Location:  Fresno Headquarters (In-Person)

Reports to:  Human Resources Director

 

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department across multiple functional areas, including recruitment, onboarding, employee services, compliance and safety, and HR administration. This position works in coordination with the Human Resources Director and other HR team members to ensure consistent application of company policies and employment practices.

 The role requires working knowledge of employment regulations, the ability to manage confidential information, and the flexibility to provide support across HR functions as operational needs require. The Human Resources Generalist may provide backup coverage or assist with projects to ensure continuity of HR services.

 

Essential Job Functions

Recruitment & Staffing Support

  • Partner with HR leadership to support staffing needs and job description updates.
  • Assist with the full-cycle recruitment process, including job postings, applicant screening, interview coordination, and offer preparation.
  • Promote a positive and professional candidate experience.
  • Review reinstatement requests in partnership with Managers/Directors to determine eligibility.
  • Send authorization emails to Apollo as required.
  • Support participation in job fairs and hiring events as needed.

Onboarding & Employee Integration

  • Coordinate onboarding processes to ensure a smooth transition for new hires.
  • Facilitate completion of new hire paperwork, background checks, onboarding authorizations (medical, uniform, LiveScan, etc.), certifications, and I-9 verification.
  • Conduct or assist with new hire orientation sessions.
  • Serve as a point of contact for new hires during their introductory period.
  • Ensure onboarding documentation is completed accurately and timely.

Employee Services & Performance Support

  • Serve as a resource for employees and supervisors regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace questions.
  • Promote consistent application of company policies and a respectful workplace environment.
  • Assist in the termination and separations as needed.

Compliance & HR Administration

  • Assist HR leadership with employee relations matters and investigations, including documentation and follow-up.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain personnel files in accordance with legal and company standards.
  • Support HR audits, reporting, and documentation requirements.
  • Assist with updating HR policies, procedures, and forms as directed.
  • Maintain accurate records within HRIS systems.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide backup support for other HR functions, including benefits and payroll coordination, as needed.
  • Cross-train within the HR department to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Support departmental projects and process improvement initiatives.

Secondary Job Function

  • Collaborate with the HR team to ensure cross-training and mutual understanding of key functions, providing coverage and continuity during absences or high-demand periods.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • Alternatively, 5+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, recruitment, or HR generalist roles.
  • Working knowledge of recruitment processes, onboarding procedures, and HR administrative practices.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and California employment laws and regulations.
  • Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HRIS systems, and standard office software.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Financial Authority

  • May request equipment or supplies through the Human Resources Director.
  • May request the purchase of inventoried items with appropriate approval.
  • May request equipment maintenance or repairs through the department manager.
  • May not contract or make financial commitments on behalf of the company.
  • May not authorize discounts on patient accounts.
  • May not authorize payment plans for patient accounts.

Human Resources Authority

  • May not discipline employees.

Communications Authority

  • May not release call-related information without prior approval.
  • May not release employee-related information without prior authorization.
  • May not release company-related information without prior approval.
  • May use company letterhead only with written permission from the Human Resources Director.
  • May not communicate with the media without authorization.

Equipment Demands

  • This job operates in an office environment.  This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers and fax machines.

  • This position operates indoors in a typical office environment with moderate noise levels.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work are expected to be normal business hours.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

 

Travel

There may be occasional travel for conferences, seminars and training.
