Human Resources Generalist

Position Overview
The Human Resources Generalist owns the day-to-day HR function at CSA Distributing and provides HR support to our sister company, Crooked Stave Brewery. This is a standalone HR role reporting directly to the General Manager, requiring a self-directed professional who can operate across the full HR spectrum with minimal oversight. Core responsibilities include payroll administration, recruiting and onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, workers’ compensation, and compliance with federal, state, and local employment law — including Colorado-specific requirements such as FAMLI, EPEWA, and paid leave mandates.
Reporting Relationships
This position reports directly to the General Manager and frequently collaborates with all departments.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Payroll
- Owns end-to-end payroll processing, including commissions, garnishments, reimbursements, and awards
- Maintains accuracy and timeliness in payroll system (ADP WorkforceNow).
Recruiting and Onboarding
- Leads full-cycle recruiting: job postings, screening, interview coordination, reference checks, and offer management
- Manages onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a consistent, compliant employee experience
Benefits and Insurance Administration
- Administers employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life, and 401(k)
- Manages annual open enrollment, new employee enrollments, and ongoing plan changes
- Assists General Manager and Ownership with employee benefit program and company insurance management and communication/audits with brokers.
Compliance and Employee Relations
- Manages federal, state, and local compliance obligations including unemployment claims, FMLA/FAMLI requests, EPEWA, paid leave, and all legislative deadlines
- Serves as the primary point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and conflict resolution
- Supports the General Manager with coaching, disciplinary procedures, and documentation
- Interprets and communicates HR policies and procedures to employees and supervisors
HR Operations and Programs
- Maintains compliant, confidential employee files and HR records
- Manages the Employee Recognition Program and coordinates company events
- Assists with HR training and development initiatives
- Supports HR budgeting needs including wage benchmarking, personnel cost reporting, and benefits cost analysis
- Other duties as assigned

- Demonstrated proactive problem-solving and decision-making capability
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity
- Working knowledge of Colorado employment law (FAMLI, EPEWA, paid leave, pay transparency)
- Proficiency with HRIS systems; ADP WorkforceNow experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite
Qualification Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a broad HR role with demonstrated ownership of HR functions
- Experience in a small or mid-sized company environment where independent judgment is preferred.
- HR Certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent) preferred
- Strong knowledge of ADP WorkforceNow preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Suite
- Colorado HR experience strongly preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Work Environment
Work is performed individually as well as within a team setting. Regular communication between management and co-workers is critical. Reliable transportation is required, and the position will require a fair amount of time on the road during the work week.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $72,500
