The HR Generalist provides broad-based human resources support across a multi-state IDD and Behavioral Health organization. This role partners closely with several HR Business Partners to deliver high-quality employee relations support and ensure consistent application of policies and practices across six states.

The HR Generalist serves as a first point of contact for employee inquiries, assists with investigations and coaching, and supports the full spectrum of HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, compliance, benefits, performance management, and acquisitions. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Travel may be required at times, particularly to support acquisition activities and onsite employee relations needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a key resource to employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and conflict resolution.
  • Support HRBPs in conducting investigations related to employee complaints, workplace conduct, and performance issues.
  • Draft documentation including corrective actions, coaching notes, and follow-up communications.
  • Escalate sensitive or high-risk matters to HRBPs for resolution while ensuring timely follow-up.

HR Operations & Support

  • Partner with HRBPs to deliver consistent HR practices across multiple states.
  • Support recruitment activities including posting jobs, screening candidates, and assisting in the onboarding process.
  • Assist with administering performance management cycles, merit increases, and goal setting.
  • Provide reporting, data analysis, and tracking of key HR metrics.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in the HRIS system.

Compliance & Policy

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across six states.
  • Assist with policy interpretation and updates to ensure alignment with regulatory changes.
  • Support audits and reporting requirements related to licensing, credentialing, and agency inspections.

Acquisitions & Integrations

  • Participate in due diligence and transition activities for acquisitions, including employee file reviews, compliance crosswalks, and policy alignment.
  • Support onboarding of acquired employees, ensuring seamless integration into systems, benefits, and culture.
  • Assist HRBPs with communication and change management during acquisitions.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support benefits administration, open enrollment, and leave management as assigned.
  • Provide guidance and support on training initiatives and employee development programs.
  • Participate in special HR projects and initiatives that advance organizational goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This position has no supervisor responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2–4 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in healthcare, IDD, or behavioral health.
  • Experience supporting multi-state operations strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEOC, state-specific requirements).
  • Experience supporting employee relations investigations and documentation.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and HR reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to build trust at all levels of the organization.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across HR and operational teams.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and business needs, including acquisition integration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position operates in both office and field settings.
  • Regular use of computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent travel required, including overnight stays.
  • Occasional lifting or transporting of materials as needed.
  • Some overnight travel may be necessary depending on organizational needs.
