Job Summary:

Human Resources Generalist
The HR Generalist supports the Human Resources department with key responsibilities in payroll processing, recruiting, onboarding, leave administration, compliance, and employee records management. This position plays a critical role in ensuring HR operations run smoothly and efficiently. This includes preparing and maintaining bi-weekly payroll for over 150 employees, managing reporting duties, supporting employee benefits, and maintaining compliance with state and federal employment laws.

Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week- Monday- Friday

MVDS supports adults and children in Eagle, Garfield, Lake, and Pitkin counties with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Our work provides life span services for these individuals, their families, and their communities to promote independence, quality of life, and rights protection.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Payroll Processing – Review timecards, resolve errors, process payroll, track garnishments and PTO, enter bonuses, and submit retirement contributions.
  • Recruitment and Hiring– Monitor staffing needs, manage job postings, review applications, complete background checks, conduct interviews, and ensure new hire processes are complete.
  • Leave & Compliance Administration – Administer FMLA, FAMLI, and Worker’s Comp processes and support legal compliance in HR practices.
  • HRIS Management – Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS system and assist managers with job requisitions.
  • Employee Support – Assist with benefit education, respond to employment verifications, and help manage training content.
  • Collaboration & Reporting – Support the HR Director with compliance reporting, audit preparation, and turnover tracking.

We Love to See:

 

  • BA or BS in Administrative Management, HR, Business, or related field, or 3+ years of relevant HR experience
  • Knowledge of payroll processing, employment law, and benefit programs
  • Experience with HRIS systems
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • A positive and professional approach to confidential and sensitive information

  • A criminal and Motor Vehicle record that meets company standards
  • Verified legal status to work in the United States
  • Ability to attend and complete all required new hire and ongoing training

Physical Demands:

Frequent walking, sitting, and use of hands; occasional standing, driving, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Requires full vision, hearing, and communication abilities. Regular use of computers and office equipment. May include occasional exposure to stressful situations or verbal aggression; MVDS provides training for support and safety.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

Education:

BA or BS Degree in Administrative Management, Human Resources, Business, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or minimum of 3 or more years relevant experience in Human Resources. 

 

Experience:

  1. In-depth knowledge and experience in payroll processing and related regulations.
  2. Familiarity with human resources and retirement plans.
  3. Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations and compliance requirements.
  4. 1 year experience HRIS management
  5. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word
  6. Willingness to take on various tasks

 

Other Requirements:

  1. A criminal and Motor Vehicle record which meets company standards. 
  2. A valid Colorado Driver’s license.
  3. Verified legal status to work in the United States.
  4. Professional demeanor and ability to safeguard confidential information.
  5. Computer competency and advanced ability in Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Experience with HRIS preferred.

 

Working Conditions:

This position requires frequent walking, sitting and occasional standing and driving; occasional balancing, stooping, bending; frequent handling objects, and reaching with hands and arms; and constant finger movements. The position requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 25 lbs. The position also requires ordinary talking and hearing capability; full vision capabilities; and the ability to read/comprehend, write, communicate orally, and reason and analyze on a constant basis, and to perform calculations frequently. Work is performed using a computer and standard office machinery daily, and occasional use of a vehicle.

There are inherent risks in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  May be subject to name calling or other verbal insults in addition to physical aggression including, but not limited to, hitting, kicking, spitting, slapping, punching, throwing objects, etc.  MVDS provides general and specific training to best prepare staff to prevent, and/or manage these occurrences.
