Position Summary

Linfield University is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Human Resources Generalist to join the Human Resources team. This role supports a wide range of HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, employee relations intake, and student employment administration.

The HR Generalist works closely with managers and employees across the institution, providing guidance, coordination, and support in key HR processes. This position also serves as a backup to the Benefits Manager and Payroll Manager and contributes to cross-training within the HR team to ensure continuity of services.

The ideal candidate will be a service-oriented professional who is comfortable working across multiple HR functions and partnering with departments to support effective HR practices.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners with hiring managers to create and/or revise position descriptions for job openings.
  • Manages the job requisition process and trains managers on the best use of tools for recruiting.
  • Develops job advertisements for posting on Linfield's website as well as other job recruitment sites.
  • Builds strong relationships with managers, employees, and candidates by delivering high-level services in employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Functions as a consultant and advisor to managers for their HR needs.
  • Acts as backup for the Benefits Manager and Payroll Manager and stays up to date on current information about benefits plans and payroll.
  • Updates the HR/Payroll website content to maintain current and accurate information and forms.
  • Participates in team learning objectives and leads the team in exploring new areas of knowledge as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison between HR and departments, ensuring a high level of service for all HR services.
  • Responsible for offboarding all employee separations, including coordination with supervisors and conducting exit interviews.
  • Engages in partnership with other administrative departments to eliminate silos and create partnerships for more effective and efficient work.
  • Ensures each duty is cross-trained with someone else in the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of relevant experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Regular verbal and written communication.
  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Occasional bending as needed.
  • Consistent use of fingers and hands to type.
  • Regular use of computer screens and software.

Work Environment

This position operates in a typical office environment with moderate noise from standard office equipment.
