Position Title: HR Generalist

Pay Type: Salaried

FLSA Designation: Exempt

Reports to: Director of HR

Location: 100% ONSITE. (Two Rochester, NY facilities within 1 mile of each other)
Salary Range: $55,000-$70,000

 

Summary/Objective:


Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist is responsible to perform and support HR related duties and functions on a professional level and works closely with the HR team. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas:  payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, recruitment/employment, onboarding, policy implementation and employment law compliance.

Essential Functions:

  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Full payroll processing, including generating payroll and custom reports as needed.
  • Supports the Director of HR with professional-level HR functions required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition and morale, and training and development.
  • Handles complex and/or sensitive employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
  • Supports the HR function with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Leads Human Resources projects as assigned by HR Director. 
  • Provides support to recruitment efforts.  Acts as a resource for management and leadership recruitment needs.  
  • Acts as a resource to other HR team members, including the Director and Safety Consultant.
  • Performs all other tasks/duties as may be assigned.

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems. (ADP Workforce Now) 
  • Performs all duties in an independent manner with little supervision.  

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Regularly required to sit, regular use of hands.
  • Frequently required to stand and walk. 
  • The employee must be able to work under pressure with ever changing deadlines and priorities.

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 3 years’ experience in Human Resources, in fast paced, high volume, customer driven environments.
  • 2 years' experience processing payroll.
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal and NY State Labor Laws, including FMLA, PFL, etc. 
  • Broad knowledge across all HR Core Competencies—Benefits Administration, Employee Relations, Compliance, Recruitment, HRIS, Payroll Administration, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently with significant latitude for independent judgement.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree a plus.
  • Bi-Lingual a plus (Spanish/English).
  • SHRM or HCRI certification a plus.
  • 3 years of Human Resource experience as an Assistant, Coordinator, or Generalist.
  • 2 years of payroll experience required.
