General Summary
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist is responsible for supporting the assigned aspects of the human resources functions. With a focus on promoting a positive client-centered University Human Resources division and organizational culture, the HR Generalist will independently coordinate, plan, and prioritize tasks according to time constraints and deadlines.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the HR Functional Teams in supporting client needs and requests in the areas of compensation, employment/classification, HRIS, employee relations, labor relations, training and organizational development and diversity/affirmative action.
- Partner with other functional areas within University Human Resources as it relates to providing customer support to clients/stakeholders.
- Provide support to designated client groups with a particular focus on employee relations, labor relations/contract interpretation, and talent needs.
- Champion the resolution of issues within assigned units before they become grievances as appropriate and within contractual parameters.
- Support proactive employee relations and talent initiatives such as employee engagement surveys, action planning, talent reviews, succession planning, performance management/improvement, etc.
- Proactively work with managers and supervisors in their development to help foster a positive employee experience.
- Provide support in the revision, development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Serve on cross-functional teams and undertake projects of moderate complexity related to Human Resources programs and objectives.
- Provide organizational and analytical support e.g.: organization/definition of workflows and process improvement initiatives; develop and maintain tracking mechanisms to improve timeliness; provide data and assist in data analysis for establishing performance metrics; generate, process, and maintain HR related forms and correspondence.
- Conduct research on best practices, laws, technology updates and current trends on HR issues and compile results and make recommendations as necessary.
- Provide HR policy and procedure, guidance and conduct evaluation, and assessment of training program success.
- Serve on committees or stakeholder groups as assigned.
- Recommend to management, and where authorized, implement improvements in systems, processes and procedures that will increase the applicable HR functions.
- Perform related departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or a related field is required.
Three years of professional Human Resources work experience is required (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
Excellent customer service, critical thinking/problem solving, data analysis, written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
Personal computing skills, including working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database management software applications are required.
Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of HRIS Systems, Applicant Tracking Systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and automated reporting tools is preferred.
Experience in a higher education/union environment is preferred.
