DescriptionPosition Summary
The Human Resources Generalist supports a broad range of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, HR operations, and compliance. This role serves as a key resource for faculty and staff, ensuring efficient HR processes that align with institutional priorities and regulatory requirements.
Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the HR Generalist contributes to a collaborative, service-oriented campus environment within a higher education institution.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment, Onboarding & ATS Support
- Coordinate full-cycle recruitment for staff and select faculty roles
- Partner with hiring managers to develop job postings, screen candidates, and coordinate interviews
- Ensure compliance with equal employment opportunity standards
- Manage onboarding processes, including orientation and new hire documentation
- Provide training and support to hiring managers and search committees on the applicant tracking system (ATS)
- Assist with maintaining ATS data integrity and reporting
Benefits Administration Support
- Assist in the administration of employee benefits programs, including health, retirement, and leave programs
- Respond to employee benefits inquiries and support issue resolution
- Support open enrollment processes, including communications and system updates
- Coordinate with benefits vendors and brokers to ensure accurate and timely service delivery
- Assist with benefits billing, invoice review, and reconciliation to ensure accuracy and timely payment
- Maintain benefits records and assist with compliance requirements (e.g., ACA, COBRA)
HR Operations & Administration
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records within the HRIS
- Process employee lifecycle changes (hires, promotions, terminations, leaves of absence)
- Support payroll processes in coordination with finance or payroll staff
- Assist with student payroll administration, including data entry, tracking, and coordination with payroll
- Generate HR reports and assist with data tracking and analysis
- Create, issue, and administer faculty contracts throughout the appointment cycle
- Manage and administer the organization’s motor vehicle policy, including processing and maintaining all required forms
Compliance & Policy Administration
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws
- Support implementation and communication of HR policies and handbook updates
- Assist with internal audits and reporting requirements
Performance Management & Training
- Support performance evaluation processes and timelines
- Provide guidance to supervisors on performance management practices
- Assist with coordination of training and professional development programs
Campus Engagement & Event Support
- Support HR-related campus events such as orientations, job fairs, and employee engagement activities
- Assist in planning and logistics for recruitment events and campus initiatives
- Represent Human Resources at campus events as needed
Student Employment
- Collaborate with Student Financial Services to accurately process all student hire requests
- Manage completion, verification, and secure storage of I‑9 documentation for student employees
QualificationsQualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of human resources experience
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Preferred
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent)
- Experience in a higher education or nonprofit environment
- Familiarity with HRIS and applicant tracking systems
