Position Summary:
The HR Generalist reports to the Human Resources Manager and provides first line support of human resources practices and objectives with the goal of retaining and recruiting a highly motivated, goal-oriented workforce. This position is expected to cultivate a positive employee relations climate, provide excellent customer service and ensure compliance with State and Federal labor laws. Additionally, this position works closely with the Human Resources Manager to support Mitchell College’s strategic initiatives and specialized projects, as assigned. This position will also serve, in the absence of the Manager. This position is part-time (30hrs./wk.), full year (12 months) and includes benefits.
Examples of Essential Functions:
- HRIS related duties
- Process changes in the HRIS system
- Process new hires/orientation, manage onboarding along with employee separation notices and related documentation
- Ensure employee records are in accordance with legal requirements
- Ensure full utilization of HRIS system attributes
- Run regular and ad-hoc reports and ensure data integrity
- Ensure employee personnel files are accurately maintained in the system.
- College benefits related duties
- Process employee enrollments and terminations
- Administer Tuition Exchange and Tuition Remission benefit programs
- Liaison between College, employee, benefits brokers and carriers
- Assist with annual census reports for benefits renewal and assist with management of benefits renewal process
- Review and administer leave programs including FMLA and/or unpaid leaves of absences. Maintain accurate spreadsheet on leave calculation.
- With a high level of discretion and authority, participate in employee relations meetings as presented by employees and managers
- Assist the Manager with research on new policies and procedures for the organization
- Handles the day-to-day operations of the office when the Manager is not in the office.
- Create and maintain physical new employee personnel/confidential/ FML/ Worker Compensation files.
- Advise the HR Manager on benefits compliance related matters and stay up-to-date on all new HR related laws
- Perform research on behalf of the HR Office on trends in HR best practices and make recommendations on new program initiatives at Mitchell College that have organizational impact.
- Represent HR in different committees as needed.
- Process and send unemployment notices/claims and support the HR Manager with Unemployment hearing documentation and attend hearings in the absence of the HR Manager.
- Support the HR Manager on employment relation meetings by taking notes and also acting as an additional witness.
- Support HR Manager with Talent management/recruitment. Assist with job postings, coordinating interviews with candidates. Assist in scheduling orientation meetings.
- Manage student worker and adjunct faculty hires in a timely fashion.
- Coordinate Workers compensation claims and liaison with the provider,
- Update Employment posters on the noticeboard including OSHA filing etc.
- Initiate and administer background verification and employee verification requests.
- Assist HR Manager in coordinating benefit open enrollment information meetings.
- All other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:
- BA/BS degree in business, management or human resources preferred or an equivalent experience of at least 3 years in HR generalist role.
- Significant and demonstrated experience with ADP HRIS software
- Extensive familiarity with Federal and State labor laws including FLSA, FMLA and worker’s compensation/unemployment laws
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail required.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times with no exception.
- Ability to quickly assimilate to academic HR environment and establish effective working relationships with all levels of the organization.
- Advanced skill levels required for MS Suite of products particularly Excel. Strong aptitude to learn new technology and a curious figuring out mind set required.
- Deadline oriented with a sense of urgency for handling matters of significance and of a confidential nature.
- Superior oral and written communications skills
Preferred Experience
- 3 years of human resources’ department experience required with an understanding of HR in a higher education institution strongly preferred

- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Punctual and able to work with minimum supervision
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask on various deadline oriented projects
