RED-Rochester is a multi-utility generation plant and district energy supplier to one of the world’s most comprehensive industrial parks: the Eastman Business Park. Supporting a 1,200-acre campus, RED-Rochester has the utilities, infrastructure, technical services, support services, space and complementary regional resources to benefit a wide range of industry verticals. We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist who enjoys the challenge of of supporting a broad range of technical, operations, engineering and administrative professionals within a district energy business. Our infrastructure consists of a blend of industrial assets and requires a person with broad human resources expertise – able to instruct and advise others; able to manage both up and down the organization; and able to work collaboratively with other departments to achieve success.  

About the Role 

The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including administering pay (processing weekly payroll), benefits, leave of absences (FMLA, STD, NYPL), hiring and interviewing staff, and enforcing company policies and practices. The person in this position partners with and supports the Director of Human Resource and field managers to anticipate and meet the evolving HR needs of the company.

This role is an onsite position - not open for remote work-from-home arrangement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Stay abreast of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting payroll/human resource functions and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.

    Process weekly payroll with accuracy and timeliness.

    Quarterly and Annual tax reconciliation.

    Audits payroll data such as garnishments, insurance, paid time off, employee purchases, and 401(k) deductions.

    Enters and maintains accurate payroll records and timesheets, and compiles reports from database as   needed.

    Maintains and updates employee records by processing employee changes and new hire information in a        timely fashion.

    Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.

    Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.

    Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.

    Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

    Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Interacts and communicates with individuals at all levels of the organization.

    Performs other related duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:  

    Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.

    At least one year of human resource/payroll experience is required.

    Must have ADP Workforce Now payroll system experience.


Work Environment:

    Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.

    Office hours are Monday – Friday 8:00am to -4:30pm.


Physical Demands

    Able to operate computer keyboard, printers, copier, etc.

    Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day.

    Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. 

    Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words.
