The Human Resources Generalist is a key member of the HR team, responsible for administering payroll operations, supporting employee lifecycle processes, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations. This role serves as a primary point of contact for payroll-related matters while also supporting core HR functions including onboarding, employee records management, audits, and employee inquiries. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compliance-minded, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on HR environment.

Job Responsibilities – What to Expect
- Manage new hire onboarding processes for both W-2 employees and 1099 contractors.
- Process employee change requests, including compensation, job status, and personal information updates.
- Maintain accurate and compliant electronic employee files and records.
- Respond to employment-related inquiries from employees and managers in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare and manage documentation for interviews.
- Administer the semi-monthly payroll process, including timekeeping review, audits, voluntary and involuntary deductions, and prevailing wage reporting.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Establish, maintain, and monitor state income tax, local tax, and unemployment accounts.
- Process year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and payroll calendar management.
- Serve as the primary administrator for ADP payroll systems, including system updates, configuration changes, and onboarding setup.
- Provide support and guidance to employees regarding payroll questions, deductions, and ADP access
- Assist with SOC 2 compliance requirements and audit preparation.
- Support the annual 401(k) audit and Form 5500 reporting process.
- Partner with internal teams and external vendors to provide required documentation for audits and compliance reviews
Your Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in an HR Generalist or payroll-focused HR role.
- Experience supporting audits (SOC 2, 401(k), or similar).
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR) a plus.
- Payroll certification (Payroll.org) a plus.
- Hands-on experience administering payroll and working knowledge of payroll laws and regulations.
- Experience using ADP or similar HRIS/payroll systems.
- Experience with multi-state payroll and compliance.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
