Description
The Human Resources Generalist serves as a key partner in delivering comprehensive human resources services. This role is responsible for overseeing all HR functions for a small 20‑employee entity, while also supporting enterprise‑wide HR initiatives across all affiliated companies (approximately 275 total employees).
The Generalist will manage employee lifecycle activities, compliance, learning and development, employee relations, performance management, and talent acquisition. The role requires increased autonomy, complexity, and strategic involvement.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Core HR Operations
- Serve as primary HR contact for all employees and leaders within a 20‑person organization.
- Administer and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook compliance.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state (California), and local labor laws.
- Coordinate payroll processing, benefits administration, and HRIS data accuracy.
- Manage onboarding, employee records, status changes, and offboarding processes.
Learning & Development
- Coordinate and track mandatory training programs, including but not limited to:
- Sexual Harassment Prevention (California‑compliant)
- Workplace Violence Prevention
- Ethics, safety, and other required compliance trainings
- Maintain training records and ensure timely completion.
- Support professional development initiatives aligned with business needs.
- Assist with succession planning, identifying high‑potential employees and development opportunities.
Employee Relations, Investigations & Discipline
- Conduct or assist with employee investigations, including complaints, policy violations, and workplace concerns.
- Prepare documentation, findings, and recommendations in compliance with best practices.
- Support progressive discipline processes and corrective action planning.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to supervisors and employees regarding workplace issues.
Performance Management
- Administer performance evaluation processes and timelines.
- Coach managers on performance expectations, feedback, and documentation.
- Support development plans and improvement strategies.
- Analyze performance trends and recommend HR interventions.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Manage full‑cycle recruitment and selection, including:
- Job postings and position descriptions
- Candidate screening and interviews
- Offer process and hiring coordination
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning and staffing needs.
- Support employer branding and candidate experience initiatives.
Offboarding & Retention
- Coordinate employee separations, ensuring compliance with final pay, notices, and documentation.
- Conduct exit interviews and analyze retention data.
- Provide recommendations to improve engagement and reduce turnover.
QualificationsRequired Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Human Resources role, preferably as a Generalist.
- Experience in managing employee relations, recruitment, and performance management.
- Proven track record of implementing HR policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with labor laws and regulations.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.
