Job Title: HR Manager
Location: Woodcliff Lake, NJ (with potential travel to other locations)
Schedule: 3 – 4 days onsite, 8:30am-5:00pm
Company Overview: A growing industrial business focused on reclamation and sustainability, with 275 employees across multiple locations. The company operates on a January-December fiscal year, and bonuses are paid out in March. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the maturation of the HR function.
Job Overview:
The HR Manager will lead the HR function across multiple locations, including corporate headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, and several plant facilities across the United States. This role will manage a small HR team and will report to the Director of Human Resources. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, dynamic leader with experience in best-in-class HR environments and a track record of building and maturing HR functions in smaller companies.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
o Manage and develop a team of 2 – 3 direct reports (HR Generalist and HR Specialist).
o Inspire, hold accountable, and develop the HR team while working closely with peers, including the Talent Acquisition Manager, and internal stakeholders.
o Serve as a strategic partner to the HR Director, providing input on HR initiatives and solutions.
Benefits Management:
o Lead the optimization of the company’s benefits plans, working with brokers on plan design for 401K and self-funded health & welfare (H&W) plans.
o Ensure benefits plan compliance, reporting, and administration with the support of an HR Specialist.
o Leverage benefits utilization data to drive cost-effective improvements in plan offerings.
HRIS & LMS Implementation:
o Lead the end-to-end implementation of a new HRIS system, transitioning from ADP to Microsoft 365 HRIS, including RFP, implementation, and ongoing optimization.
o Oversee the implementation of the Absorb Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring integration with LinkedIn Learning.
o Manage all aspects of HR systems, including systems interfaces.
Employee Relations & Compliance:
o Handle tier 1 and 2 employee relations complaints and investigations for manager-level employees and below, escalating more complex cases to the HR Director.
o Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations.
Performance Management & Onboarding:
o Lead the performance management process, ensuring alignment with company goals.
o Oversee the onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a smooth and compliant experience for all employees.
Strategic HR Initiatives:
o Partner with the HR Director in the development and execution of HR strategies that align with business objectives.
o Benchmark HR practices against industry standards to maintain a competitive edge.
Culture & Employee Engagement:
o Foster a culture of empathy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
o Engage with a diverse employee base, including many long-tenured employees and new leadership, to drive engagement and retention.
Qualifications:
• Experience: Minimum of 7 years in HR, with prior experience in a people management role.
• Team Management: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop HR teams, with a hands-on approach.
• HR Expertise: Strong background in benefits management, HRIS implementation, employee relations, and performance management.
• Leadership: Proven ability to be a strategic partner, with a leadership mindset and the ability to challenge the business appropriately.
• Interpersonal Skills: Empathetic yet assertive, with the ability to hold teams and the business accountable.
• Industry Knowledge: Experience in best-in-class HR environments and in building or maturing HR functions in smaller companies.
