DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance - South Bay in Torrance, CA is looking for a Human Resources Manager to join our team. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, ambitious, and reliable.

POSITION PURPOSE: Directs and ensures the efficient administration and management of the Human Resources function to include recruiting, training, wage/benefit administration, compliance with statutory requirements and the execution of employee relation activities, in order to provide each department with the personnel, guidance, and support necessary to achieve their customer service and business objectives.  

Responsibilities

  • HR Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Hotel's human resource functions, including recruitment, employee relations, training and development, performance management, assists payroll, oversees benefits coordination, compliance with labor laws and maintaining a positive and productive workplace culture. This role is critical in supporting operational excellence and ensuring a motivated service-focus team across all departments.
  • Leads the recruitment and onboarding process, ensuring alignment with DoubleTree by Hilton brand service standards, management and local labor regulations. Conduct interviews for all management positions and line positions as needed. Support department heads with staffing forecasts and talent planning.
  • Partner with department heads to forecast staffing needs and fill open positions efficiently. Conduct new hire orientation and ensure all onboarding documents is completed and filed appropriately. Foster a positive, respectful and inclusive work environment. Handle employee relations matters including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions and terminations. Serve as a liaison between management and employees to address concerns and promote communication 
  • Conducts new hire orientation and reinforce DoubleTree by Hilton’s values, service culture and mission. Instruct training classes, analyze and review current and proposed methods, consult with and make recommendations to the management staff for improvement. Manage all Doubletree mandated brand initiatives and required training programs ensuring they are conducted on timely manner.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training programs to improve skills compliance and guest service. Support leadership development and succession planning initiatives. Maintain training records and monitor compliance with required programs (e.g., safety harassment prevention)
  • Oversee CARE Committee members’ selection process as well as assist in promoting CARE activities to all hotel team members. Champion a positive and inclusive team member culture across all departments.  
  • Resolve employee relations issues with professionalism and confidentiality, ensuring fair and consistent application of Hotel’s policies.
  • Ensure legal compliance with labor laws, wage and hour regulations and workplace safety standards. ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and company policies. Maintain accurate and up to date employee files, records and data. Coordinate workers compensation, leaves of absence and unemployment claims                                  
  • Support payroll, benefits administration and timekeeping accuracy in collaboration with property systems. Assist with payroll processing and employee benefits administration. Support performance evaluation process and merit increases and surveys. Ensure competitive pay structures aligned with local labor markets and budget goals.
  • Oversee performance evaluations, corrective actions and progressive discipline process. 
  • Drive team member engagement, recognition programs and community outreach efforts in line with DoubleTree by Hilton social responsibility goals. 
  • Promote the Hotels' values and service culture throughout the employee experience. Lead recognition and employee engagement initiates to drive retention and moral. Act as a culture ambassador and support diversity, equity and inclusion efforts 
  • Must consistently exhibit a professional demeanor in all interactions with guests, team members, and all hotel ownership and/or management, and its representatives. 
  • Must be able to consistently report to work on time as scheduled, and be prepared to work as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills. Ability to handle sensitive situations with confidentially and professionalism.
  • Ability to deal effectively with all employees and employee representatives, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to diffuse anger and collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
  •  Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing in order to prepare official memorandum and correspondence as well as provide clear and meaningful instructions, guidance and counseling to all employees.  
  • Bilingual a plus. 
  • Thorough knowledge of Human Resources practices and procedures as well as considerable knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations pertaining to Human Resources matters.
  •  Basic mathematical skills in order to perform moderately complex calculations for salary and benefit administration and to forecast departmental expenses using a calculator and/or moderately complex computer system.
  •   Ability to type 50 words per minute to prepare correspondence and meet deadlines.
  •   Ability to stand, walk and/or sit and continuously perform essential job functions for an eight-plus hour shift.
  •   Visual ability to observe employees in the work place, analyze operations and detect situations of concern with regard to areas such as employee performance, grooming, training, policy adherence and morale.
  • Ability to work on a fast-paced hotel environment. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required based on hotel needs. 
  • Onsite role with direct interaction with all hotel departments.
