Pet Food Experts has been fueling the pet industry for over 80 years, growing from a small family business into the nation’s leading pet specialty distributor. Today, we proudly support more than 10,000 independent pet retailers nationwide.

At Pet Food Experts, we do more than distribute products. We build partnerships, strengthen communities, and create workplaces where people genuinely enjoy coming to work.

With continued growth across our national footprint, we’re looking for a Senior Human Resources Generalist to support our Tacoma Distribution Center and regional cross-dock locations. This is a high-impact HR business partner role for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, people-centered operational environment.

About the Role

This is not a behind-the-scenes HR role. This is a visible, relationship-driven position where you’ll partner closely with leaders and employees to shape culture, navigate challenges, and support a high-performing workforce.

The role blends strategic partnership with hands-on execution — ideal for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and meaningful connection with the business.

What You’ll Focus On

  • Serving as a trusted partner to site leadership and employees
  • Navigating employee relations matters with sound judgment and emotional intelligence
  • Coaching leaders through performance conversations and people challenges
  • Supporting a high-performance culture aligned with PFX values
  • Ensuring compliance while keeping HR practical, balanced, and human
  • Managing key processes including ADA, leave administration, and Workers’ Compensation
  • Driving engagement, recognition, and retention efforts
  • Partnering with Talent Acquisition on hiring needs
  • Owning core HR operations and documentation
  • Using data and trends to recommend proactive solutions

Travel: Approximately 20–25% regional travel

This is an on-site role requiring consistent presence at the Tacoma Distribution Center.

 Who Thrives in This Role

This role is a strong fit for someone who:

  • Enjoys being embedded in the day-to-day life of the operation
  • Builds trust easily and forms strong working relationships
  • Is calm, steady, and solutions-oriented during people challenges
  • Can balance empathy with accountability
  • Is comfortable shifting between strategic conversations and tactical work
  • Prefers variety over rigid routine
  • Brings sound judgment rather than overly bureaucratic HR approaches
  • Values practicality, fairness, and consistency

This role may feel frustrating for someone who:

  • Strongly prefers highly structured, process-heavy environments
  • Dislikes handling employee relations or performance conversations
  • Seeks a purely strategic or purely administrative HR role
  • Needs extensive layers of HR support or specialization

 What You Bring

  • 5–7 years of progressive HR experience
  • Strong background in employee relations and leader coaching
  • Solid understanding of employment law and HR compliance
  • Experience in fast-paced operational environments such as distribution, logistics, manufacturing, retail, or healthcare
  • Ability to build credibility and partnerships at all levels
  • Bachelor’s degree required (HR or Business preferred)
  • SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP a plus
  • Multi-site experience preferred

Most importantly, you bring strong judgment, adaptability, and a genuine passion for supporting people and leaders.

Benefits & Perks of Being Part of the PFX Pack

  • Competitive Compensation
  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
  • Retirement Savings with Employer Match
  • Flexible Time Off
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Company-Paid Life & Disability Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Pet Perks & Product Discounts
  • Additional Voluntary Benefits
