Human Resources Generalist

Location: Arlington Heights, IL

Hours: Full time, Monday - Friday 8:00am-4pm (35hrs/week)

Salary: $65,000/year, plus full time benefits

Clearbrook is a non-profit, social services agency that is dedicated to providing innovative services, tools and opportunities to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as Autism and Down Syndrome.

The Senior HR Generalist serves as a trusted advisor to managers and staff, with primary responsibility for ensuring consistent, fair, and compliant employee relations practices. This role leads the disciplinary process, provides expert guidance on complex HR matters, manages the Worker’s Compensation program, and fosters accountability across the organization. In addition, the Senior HR Generalist oversees and develops a small HR team, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while modeling professional growth and excellence.



Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

• Employee Relations & Compliance (50%)

  • Lead and manage the full disciplinary process, including coaching sessions, verbal and written warnings, suspensions, and terminations.
  • Ensure all disciplinary actions are handled in a fair, consistent, and legally compliant manner.
  • Partner with managers to strengthen accountability and direct communication within teams.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local employment laws and provide proactive compliance guidance.

• Worker’s Compensation (20%)

  • Manage the Worker’s Compensation program, including claims, case monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee and conduct investigations of workplace incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and timely resolution.
  • Act as liaison with insurance providers and managers to coordinate appropriate follow-up.

• Leadership & Team Development (20%)

  • Supervise and mentor an HR Generalist and two Administrative Assistants, ensuring quality and accuracy of HR operations.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities to team members. o Delegate responsibilities effectively while maintaining oversight of compliance-sensitive tasks.

• Employee Recognition & Engagement (5%) 

  • Coordinate Employee Recognition lunches to celebrate milestone anniversaries.

• General HR Support (5%)

  • Advise managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Teach quarterly HR Supervision classes to managers. o Support other HR projects and initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).

• 3-5 years of progressive HR experience with a strong emphasis on employee relations, investigations, and compliance.

• Proven experience managing disciplinary processes and ensuring adherence to employment law.

• 2 years experience supervising and mentoring HR or administrative staff.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Worker’s Compensation procedures and claims management. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion. • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
