The Sr. HR Business Partner provides guidance and consultation to the Store Directors and District Managers, regarding policy/practices/collective bargaining agreements and employment law by maintaining active knowledge of Human Resources issues, National Labor Relations Board case law, and fostering positive labor/management relations. The HRBP will have responsibility for 1-2 regional districts with up to 20 stores in each district.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Foster an inclusive working environment that promotes authenticity and diversity of thought.
  • Challenge the status quo; pursue different approaches to our work by demonstrating flexibility and transparency. Acts as strategic partner with retail operations groups by aligning objectives with HAC, Inc's goals.
  • Develop strong relationships with retail employees, store directors, district managers, and union counterparts.
  • Continue education and research of current Labor Relations and employment law trends.
  • Administer and interpret multiple collective bargaining agreements, including providing support on day-to-day consultations and grievances, arbitrations, and effects bargaining.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate archiving of day-to-day consultations, grievances, arbitrations, charges, and effects bargaining via a case management system.
  • Identify and escalate root-cause issues and risk factors that emerge through consultations, grievances, effects bargaining, negotiations, and charges.
  • Investigates and advises management regarding appropriate resolution of employee relations and performance management issues. 
  • Investigates and responds to union grievances.  Partners with union representatives/store management for appropriate solutions to issues raised.
  • In partnership with other HR Business Partners on the team, ensure alignment and consistency with policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Recruits, interviews, tests, and selects employees to fill vacant positions in partnership with management for the district.  
  • Support negotiation planning, bargaining, and contract implementation.
  • Participate in developing and implementing team projects as assigned.
  • Develops and audits stores for proper human resources practices.  Regularly visits stores to promote positive employee relations with employees and store management.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in the field of Industrial Labor Relations, HR, psychology, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Advanced degree in Human Resources preferred.
  • Understanding of all aspects of labor and human resources related laws and regulations including but not limited to the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), Title VII, ADA, ADAAA, ADEA, FMLA & state/local laws and ordinances
  • 3-5 years of experience in Labor Relations, Human Resources, or equivalent (e.g. negotiations preparation, bargaining, implementation, and administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements, and drafting grievance responses.)
  • 3 to 5 years of experience supporting geographically dispersed stores/field organization.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification a plus.

  • Solid technical business writing skills and written/verbal communication, including the ability to negotiate, manage differing points of view, understand key stakeholder needs at all levels, and influence leadership.
  • Strong investigation skills, development of position statements for EEOC investigations, etc.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Facilitate training courses and lead meetings.
  • Proficient in technology and use of best-in-class investigation procedures. For example: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and project management systems
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies, including change management.
  • Proven ability to lead by empowering team members through developing, teaching/training, and coaching.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and resolve problems that are without a clear precedent.
  • Comfortable in an ambiguous and rapidly changing work environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cross-functional working relationships across the company.
  • Have a multi-state experience in a very complex sales and logistic environment.
