HR Leader

Hansons is seeking a Vice President of Human Resources to lead all people, payroll, and workforce functions for a growing home remodeling organization. This role owns HR strategy and execution across payroll, benefits, compliance, employee relations, recruiting, compensation, and HR operations for a mixed W-2 and contract labor workforce.

The VP of HR is both a strategic leader and an operational owner. This role is expected to build structure, reduce risk, strengthen leadership capability, and ensure day-to-day HR excellence across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Executive HR Leadership

  • Serve as the senior-most HR leader and strategic partner to executive leadership
  • Align people strategy with business goals, growth plans, and operational needs
  • Provide clear guidance to leaders on performance, risk, and workforce decisions
  • Establish HR priorities, governance, and accountability across the organization

Payroll & HR Operations

  • Provide executive oversight of payroll operations for W-2 employees and applicable contract labor
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, timeliness, tax compliance, and audit readiness
  • Lead and develop the payroll function to reduce errors and dependency risk
  • Oversee HRIS, timekeeping, and workforce data integrity
  • Ensure all HR and payroll processes are documented, standardized, and scalable

Benefits, Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Own benefits strategy and administration, including plan design, renewals, and vendor management
  • Ensure compliance with ACA, COBRA, ERISA, and related regulations
  • Lead compensation philosophy, job architecture, and pay practices
  • Partner with leadership on incentive plans, pay equity, and market competitiveness
  • Improve employee understanding and utilization of total rewards offerings

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Act as the final escalation point for employee relations matters
  • Lead or oversee investigations, corrective action, and performance management guidance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Maintain employee handbook, policies, and required postings
  • Reduce legal and employee relations risk through proactive training and coaching

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

  • Provide executive leadership over recruiting and talent acquisition strategy
  • Ensure recruiting processes support speed, quality, and compliance
  • Partner with leaders on workforce planning, hiring priorities, and organizational design
  • Oversee onboarding, orientation, background checks, and I-9 compliance
  • Strengthen employment branding and candidate experience

HR Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop HR, payroll, recruiting, and front desk teams
  • Set clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability
  • Ensure timely performance reviews, goal setting, and development planning
  • Build depth, succession, and resilience across HR functions

Office & Front Desk Oversight

  • Provide leadership oversight for reception/front desk operations
  • Ensure professional visitor experience and reliable coverage
  • Align front desk responsibilities with HR and operational needs

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including senior-level responsibility
  • Demonstrated ownership of payroll, benefits, employee relations, recruiting, and compliance
  • Experience supporting both W-2 employees and contract labor
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR risk management
  • Proven experience leading multi-function HR teams
  • Ability to influence executives and hold leaders accountable
  • Strong judgment, documentation, and execution skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • HR certification (SPHR, SHRM-SCP strongly preferred)
  • Experience in construction, home services, or operationally complex environments
  • HR transformation or scale-up experience
  • Strong HRIS and payroll systems expertise
