This role is ideal for a strategic HR leader who also values staying connected to the day-to-day realities of supporting employees, managers, and organizational operations.

The Vice President of Human Resources will lead the development and execution of people strategies that support employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, talent development, and a positive workplace culture aligned with the agency’s mission and values. This leader will partner closely with executive leadership while also providing practical guidance and oversight across core HR functions including employee relations, compliance, benefits, training, performance management, succession planning, internal communications, and HR operations.

The ideal candidate brings both strategic vision and hands-on HR leadership experience, with the ability to move seamlessly between long-term planning and operational execution. This individual will be a visible and approachable leader who can build strong relationships across the organization while driving initiatives that support growth, accountability, inclusion, and employee well-being.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, including experience leading both strategic initiatives and operational HR functions
  • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization, specifically in Human Services, strongly preferred
  • Multi-site HR experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams while partnering effectively with executive leadership
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law, HR compliance, employee relations, and HR best practices
  • Experience developing and implementing HR policies, programs, and organizational initiatives
  • Knowledge of employee benefits administration and strategy
  • Experience with HRIS systems and leveraging technology to improve HR processes and employee access to information
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic member of the leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, culture, and agency-wide initiatives
  • Lead and support the Human Resources team while maintaining involvement in key operational and employee-related matters
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement across the organization
  • Partner with leadership and managers on workforce planning, recruitment, retention, employee engagement, and performance management strategies
  • Oversee employee relations matters, including coaching, investigations, conflict resolution, and complex personnel issues
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and agency policies across all locations
  • Oversee HR operations including policies, employee communications, personnel records, HR reporting, handbook management, and compliance documentation
  • Lead initiatives focused on onboarding, employee development, succession planning, training, and retention
  • Support and enhance employee recognition, communication, and culture-building efforts across the agency
  • Oversee employee benefits programs and retirement plan administration in partnership with brokers and external partners
